This episode of the Green Line portrays Istanbul, the biggest city in Europe. Istanbul has grown from 1.5 million inhabitants after WWII up to a staggering 15 million inhabitants. The spectacular growth of the city mirrors the economic and social transformation that Turkey has witnessed over the last decades. The city is also the battleground of conflicting narratives over Turkish identity. In the summer of 2013 these conflicts came to a head in riots around the Gezi Park and Taksim Square in the centre of Istanbul.

We cross Istanbul, with professor Edhem Eldem of the prestigious Bosporus University. Eldem is considered to be one of the foremost experts of the history of Istanbul. He guides us through this fascinating megacity.......
